I know that I mention Back-Up fairly often, but it’s so easy to lose that irreplaceable data, such as your honeymoon or holiday photos, or that important file that you just didn’t get around to backing up; your data and files can be lost due to Computer Corruption, Infection and Theft.

So why not use a Reliable and Secure online backup, that gives at least one GigaByte of free space; why not try Drop Box at: db.tt/wB7bje6

Another way of losing data is through accidental clicks; but you can undo almost any action by pressing the keys CTRL & Z; these are not just used for typing; if you accidentally delete or move a file, you can use them to bring it right back to where it was.

Sunday Afternoon Pastimes:

Well its still warm, but it’s also wet, so what can I do now? Watch TV, a film a documentary or a comedy. Do I really want to sit in front of the TV all day, not really, no matter how good the TV is.

I like a drink, but I find that a few pints on an afternoon just means that I get tired early, and end up Drinking more or going to bed early; I was going to have a barbecue, but that’s out now.

So the question is, what do most people do on rainy Sunday? What do you do to effectively pass the time in an enjoyable way when staying outside is out of the question?

I’d love to know, please share?

Why Do We Need IT Support?

For most people computers have now become an inseparable part of their life, whether it be for work, pleasure or both, and most professions now require the use of at least one computer, an e-mail account and the internet; though most businesses now use computers for a lot more besides that, such as online banking, research, social media, and office programs such as Excel, PowerPoint & Word, not to mention that expensive specialised software that is vital for your profession.

Now computers are great when they work like new and do all that you expect of them; however, hardware-wise a wide variety of computer parts can, and do, break down at a moment’s notice and software-wise incompatibilies, overheating and viruses can stop a program working properly, or even an important file from opening; these types of things usually seem to happen just when you need your computer the most, and how much time and money have you wasted in the past due to computer problems such as these?

What most people do not realise is that having a local IT support guy on hand to do regular computer maintenance, on all computers, can help prevent a lot of this from happening, and can resolve problems quickly, as and when they do happen; in these cases IT support can make your life a whole lot more simple, and less embarrassing and frustrating; we have all heard of the phrase “Time is money”, so how much money have you lost in the past due to computer problems that could have been prevented? Remember prevention is always better than the cure.

I believe that “Healthy Computers Make Happy Users”, so why not be proactive, rather than reactive, and keep yours computers running smoothly for as long as possible, by using Discere Faciendo your local IT Support.

Computer Mouse Tips:

Many Text Editors and Programs allow you to highlight all or portions of text using the Shift key and the mouse.

For Example, place the cursor at the beginning of a paragraph in a text editor, hold down the Shift key and click at the end of the paragraph to highlight the full paragraph.

The mouse wheel is not just a wheel, it can also be used as a button; Pressing down on the wheel will act like a third mouse button.

Open a web page in a tab by clicking the wheel on any link and can also be used to close a tab by clicking the wheel on any open tab.

Holding down the shift key while scrolling up or down in a Internet browser will quickly go back and forward between web pages.

Zoom in and Out on a web page, word document, excel spreadsheet, etc. by holding down the Ctrl key and scrolling up to zoom in and down to zoom out.

Move forward and backwards while browsing the Internet by holding down the Shift key and scrolling up and down: Scrolling down goes back and scrolling up goes forward.

Some mouse wheels can be pushed left or right to also move back and forward on a web page.

Any word can be selected by double-clicking the word; if you want to highlight the whole paragraph, click the mouse button three times on any text in the paragraph.

If you double-click you can also double-click and then drag your mouse to select one word at a time.

If you highlight a file or text, you can right-click that highlighted item copy it and then right-click anywhere else to paste it.

If you right-click on any file or text and drag it while continuing to hold the right button, when you let go you will be given the option to move or copy that file or text.

While in a browser pressing and holding Ctrl while clicking on any link will open that link in a new tab.

While holding down the Ctrl key you can left-click to select multiple objects or highlight multiple sections of text.

In Microsoft Windows you could hold down the Ctrl key and click to select multiple files at once.

If you wanted to highlight different parts of a paragraph or web page, you could also hold down the Ctrl key and select each section you wanted to copy.

Many new computer mice have buttons on the side of the mouse; these buttons can be programmed, however, by default the left-thumb button can be used to go back on a web page.

This makes browsing the Internet more enjoyable since you do not need to move the mouse cursor to the browser back arrow button in order to go back a page.

Protecting Your Computer:

You need a Firewall, Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Program, which all need to be kept updated; free versions are OK!

A Firewall is a program that sits between your computer and the internet, forming a barrier against incoming attacks; your first defence.

An Anti-Virus program protects against a number of different threats, including Trojans, Worms & Viruses, but cannot stop brand new threats.

Anti-Virus software protects you against Viruses from e-mails and internet; some Anti-Virus software will include Anti-Malware tools.

Anti-Malware programs protect against malicious software that downloads to your computer without your knowledge, which can include spyware!

Anti-Malware programs check for and eliminate malicious software within a program that you have chosen to install, but cannot kill new ones!

All new laptops usually come with an Anti-Virus program installed; however, it may only work temporarily unless you pay for it.

Do not try to run two Anti-Virus programs together; this can cause you several problems; uninstall the old before installing the new.

If you would like free advice on protecting your laptop or PC, let me know and I will help out where I can; all computers need protecting!

Business networking Group Wakefield:

As I stated in an earlier post, I am pleased to be a member of a Wakefield City Business group, which meets weekly on a Tuesday, at 9:30am at Sandal Rugby Club, in Wakefield; we meet with the prime intention of passing on Business Opportunities to each other through Word-Of-Mouth Referrals.
